Lohachara

The island of Lohachara was an small island of the delta of the Gange, near to the Indien state of the Bengal Occidental. It had been evacuated in the years 1980. This immersion induced the displacement forced of 6000 families towards the island of Sagar, which is already partially submerged.

Its final immersion was noted by Indian researchers in December 2006.

For twenty years, four islands - Bedford, Lohachara, Kabasgadi and Suparibhanga - have been definitively immersed. Even if other local causes can be evoked (erosion…), this disappearance is closely related to the rise of the sea level due to the total Climate warming.
