A log is a term of origin Gaelic being used to indicate water levels like a Lac, a Fjord, a Estuaire, a bay or a Crique.

This term meets only in the British Isles and more particularly in the areas with Celtic culture like the Scotland and Ireland. In North of the England and in Northern Ireland, the term used is generally lough . A small log is also called lochan (in Scotland) or lochán (in Ireland).

The logs can take all the forms but are generally lengthened because water occupies of the depressions formed by the passage of the Glacier S at the time of the last Glaciation.

Most famous of the logs Loch Born is the but there are hundreds. In Scotland, there exists only one place comprising the word lake : the Lake Menteith coming from a anglicisation of the Scottish Laich O Menteith .
