Locks of Kreekrak
The lock S of Kreekrak are located on the Canal of the Scheldt at the Rhine, on the territory of the commune Dutchwoman of Reimerswaal.
Daily, of the hundreds of boats cross them, on the way towards the ports of Antwerp or Rotterdam. The construction of a third lock was planned.
A system allows the separation of fresh water and salt water: the fresh water of the Zoommeer cannot mix with salt water of the channel. The salt water having a Density higher than fresh water, when the boats are on the way towards Rotterdam, the salt water is pumped while fresh water is added. The reverse is carried out for the boats which go from Zoommeer towards the Belgium.
