Lock with throats

A lock with throats is a Serrure equipped with metal parts assembled on a pivot (the throats ), raised at a certain height by the rotation of the web of the key . It is about the first true improvement made to the Serrure with trimmings. Indeed, it is necessary that all the throats are simultaneously raised to release the bolt.

The locks with throats with double action were invented by English Robert Barron in 1778. The tongue , small metal part interdependent of the bolt, is retained in the notch of the throat as long as this one is raised at the exact level (neither too high nor too low).
