Lobster of the Cape

The lobster of the Cape ( Homarinus capensis ), is small a Homard Sud-africaines coasts, between the Cape and East London. This species was included in the kind Homarus before it is described its own kind Homarinus in 1995.

The lobsters of the Cape are rare. Only 14 specimens, including only one female, were collected between 1792 (date of the first description) and 1992. In 1992, an alive specimen was discovered on the island of Dassen, like another death close to East London. The publicity made around these discoveries made it possible to count 2 other individuals.

After the discovery of 3 alive individuals in April and May 1997, only in the world, the aquarium of East London now hopes to raise the species starting from this female and of the 2 males.

Like the species of the kind Homarus , H. capensis has specialized grips, to cut out and the other to crush.
