Lobi

The Lobi (or Lobiri, Miwa) constitute people present at the south-west of the Burkina Faso, at the North-West of the Ghana and the North-East of the Ivory Coast, primarily in the area of Bouna, near to the Ghana and the Burkina Faso, on Right Bank of the black Volta. Their origin is known through mythical accounts, their migration would have left current Ghana north, crossing the area of Wa and Volta, there is that a few centuries. They account for approximately 1,8% of the population of the Ivory Coast.

The villages Lobi are numerous within the National park of Comoé. Their culture is quasi-identical to that their neighbors, the Birifor S and the Dagara S. Historically, the Lobi forged a reputation of “warriors”.

The social structuring and the relations between clans are particularly complex.

Today, the populations of the Lobi branch are primarily known and appreciated for their art of the sculptor and their furnace bridges. However, their culture is not limited to this formal and material aspect. Their cosmogony and worships are as many original elements in the mosaic of cultures of the groups of populations of West Africa. The music and its intrications with the worships and the nosology represent well, in others, these many particularisms.
