Llancarfan
Llancarfan is the name of a Welsh monastery of the Early middle ages, between Cowbridge and Y Barri, close to the coast of the Glamorgan, from where are originating in many Breton saints, among whom Gildas , or Saint Gildas. It is estimated that the emigrants towards continental Brittany crossed initially the channel of Bristol-board to cross old the Domnonée before crossing the English Channel.
One also knows the writings of the monk Caradoc who wrote a life of Gildas at the 12th century, and one knows that the Irish monk Canice (or Kenny which gave its name to Kilkenny) there was ordered priest.
Today Llancarfan is a rural village with a church and a pub.
