Lixing-lès-Rouhling is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle and the basin of life of the Moselle-is.

Geography

Lixing is located near to the German border, not far from Saarbrucken (capital of the Land of the Saar). Commune is located at bottom of valley crossed by Betting, small brook which is thrown soon in the the Saar, which materializes the border, with Grosbliederstroff three kilomères in the east.

History

The history of Lixing is marked by the successive wars between Germany and France, the commune becoming German with Alsace and the remainder of the Moselle in 1870, change name and are called Lixingen. It becomes again French in 1918, before becoming again German in 1940, contrary with the remainder of France, which divides between free zone and occupied zone, but remains France all the same. Between 1939 and 1940, the village is evacuated towards Charente. Many contacts still exist between the two populations which become friendly. After 40, many young people people are mobilized by the German army (they are called the In spite of us) and will die in Russia.

The village is released in March 1945, nine months after the unloading, by the American soldiers.

The church, destroyed, is then rebuilt. It constitutes the principal monument of the village.

The commune takes the name of Lixing-lès-Rouhling. To note the grave accent on which differentiates this link-word from: it is of Latin origin and means “with dimensions” or “near”. That differentiates the village (located in a valley just below Rouhling) with Lixing-the-Saint-Avold.

The village is also marked by the exploitation of the mines of coal of the coal basin of Forbach, Houillières of the Lorraine coalfields being the first employer of the commune. The last puit, that of Houve, closed on April 23rd, 2004, leaving behind him many villagers in early withdrawal.
