Livry (Nievre)

Livry is a common French, located in the department of the Nievre and the area Burgundy.

Geography

History

The village is mentioned as of 1161 under the name of Livracum in a bubble of the pope Alexandre III. With the Middle Ages, the duke of Bourbon Pierre II, wanting to give rise to the area, made there establish a colony of Auvergnats. At the 19th century, the owner of the castle of the Bar discovers Kaolin on his grounds, and creates, in 1856, a porcelain company employing forty-five workmen. In 1929, the Company of the kaolinic careers of the Bar always reorganizes and modernizes the exploitation with open sky in activity at the end of the 20th century. (Town hall Source)

Riousse could be the name of the first vine grower who planted his tent close to the fountain. De Soultrait mentions a “Ryosse” since 1275, as well as a “Villaquae dicitur Riousse” in 1269. It is a colony auvergnate which founded Riousse. The vineyard developed at the 18th century and knew its apogee at the 19th century when, in 1860, it extended on 300 hectares and counted 300 vine growers.

In 1992, under the influence of the municipality was born Association for the rehabilitation from the Vineyard of Riousse. It very quickly gave rise to the S.C.E.A. of Closed of Riousse which gathers 600 shareholders today. It became owner of a field of 16 hectares. The manual vintage is ensured by the voluntary members. The traditional wine making is entrusted to a vine grower oenologist.
