Live Secure Internet conferencing

SILC ( Secure Internet Live Conferencing ) is a Communication protocol on Internet.

Operation

A network SILC is distributed on several waiters, just like IRC. Surface, SILC resembles IRC, but its operation is very different.

The protocol IRC at the base does not provide any real Confidentialité, because the messages are visible in simple form on all the network and it is also possible to modify them. Certain waiters IRC use extensions SSL for to quantify the traffic, but it is not a total solution because the administrator can always intercept the message and nothing confirms the identity of the sender.

SILC cures this problem using the asymmetrical Cryptographie and of a sophisticated system of exchange of keys, which allows the messages beings transmitted of a user to the other without even the administrator of the waiter being able to intercept the message in his simple form. The communication between multiple waiters SILC in a network is also protected.

Keys are associated with each connection and each channel. The private messages can also use specific keys.

Standardization

Six drafts were subjected to IETF. The specification of protocol SILC is available here.
