Live At The Fillmore East
With the years, the album Band Of Gypsys published in 1970 ended up being essential as being a major disc, whose impact exceeds the only universe of the rock'n'roll, where paradoxically, the disc continues to be discussed. Since the beginning of the era Experiment Hendrix LLC (in 1997), Band Of Gypsys did not cease being put on the front of the scene through their discographics publications.
Published in 1999, the Live At The Fillmore East had what to arouse the interest of the amateurs of Jimi Hendrix: a vast majority of the titles presented here were then new, coming from the same series in concerts as the historical Live of the group. Some regretted at once the selected form: an double album and not a box 6 CD recalling the entirety in the 4 concerts. One can think that such a decision would have been regrettable: the material recorded then did not justify the publication of the entirety of the bands. The Live At The Fillmore East is for this reason edifying: if first CD is absolutely remarkable, second is far from respecting the quality standards which one is in right to wait of an album of Jimi Hendrix.
The choice of the titles operated by Experience Hendrix LLC could slightly have improved gives it (for the detail, defer you to my Live chronicles), but it does not remain about it less than if the new material justified the publication of another Live of Band Of Gypsys, the option of simple would undoubtedly have been more respectful of the work of the guitarist. Even if it means to propose the entirety in the 4 concerts via Dagger Records…

Band Off Gypsys: the DVD
The policy of Experiment Hendrix LLC as regards Live is from now on known: each album Live is accompanied by a DVD corresponding to the performance. The publication of the double Live At The Fillmore East was the occasion of the exit of the DVD Band Of Gypsys , which curiously compiled. It begin with documentary recalling the history from Band Of Gypsys, reconsidering its impact with interviews of Slash, Lenny Kravitz, and others Vernon Reid. It is the type of documentary which is looked at when it is diffused on television (Canal Jimmy had proposed it besides), but whose purchase proves to be dispensable, even if one finds there the only extracts filmed color of the group.
On the other hand, which could seem to be a no-claims bonus is differently more interesting: the third concert of Band Of Gypsys is presented in its (almost) entirety.
The setlist is the following one:
- Who Knows
- Machine Gun
- Them Exchanges
- Power Off Drunk
- Stepping Stone
- Foxy Lady
- Stop
- Earth Blues (crossed)
The first two titles constitute face 1 of the album Band Of Gypsys published the alive one of Jimi Hendrix: video of " Gun" machine; is a truly historical document, even if it is a film in black and white, whose quality of image is poor, even bad, one is indeed far from that of Monterey or Woodstock.
