Liutprand
Liutprand , born before 690 and wire is successor of the king of the Lombards of Italy Ansprand, duke of Asti, reign of June 712 with 744.
It vainly tries to unify the Italian peninsula under the domination lombarde and enters regularly in conflict with the Papauté. It subjects the duchies semi-indépendants lombards Spolète and of Bénévent and tries to expel the definitively Byzantine of Italy by in particular besieging Ravenne in 734.
In good agreement with the Frank , it takes part in the battle of the pond of Berre against the Moors (demolished Moslem of 739), where also the future frank king takes part, Pépin the Brief.
In 737, it associates with the capacity Hildeprand, its grandson.
It makes réinterdire the mixed marriages between Lombards and Romains, mixed marriages however authorized since the end of the 7th century, probably to maintain the national cohesion of the people lombard and other tribes allied (Saxons, Gépides, Bulgares, etc), among the indigenous mass, much more.
Pious and wise king in his decisions, good war leader, it is tallest of the kings lombards. He is buried with Pavia, the capital lombarde.
He measured approximately 1.73/1.74m, size largely above the average for the time and compared to the other “Italians” the peninsula.
