Biography

With Chuck Berry and Conceited Domino, it seems one of the first black musicians of rock'n'roll to know the favors of the white public. Rebellious personality, Little Richard marked his time by its songs (which it stresses while howling) or its appropriate dresses blazing, as many characteristics which contributed to define the tone and the image of the rock'n'roll. It considerably influenced the musicians of the following generation like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.

Born with Mason (Georgia), Little Richard is resulting from an large family. His/her devout father does not do anything to encourage the taste of his son for the music, just as the whole of his family which rejects her homosexuality, rejection which pushes it to leave the residence very early. Very quickly, he sings Gospel in the local festivals, then Rythm and blues in the clubs.

In 1955, it signs a contract at Specialty, a modest small house of discs which takes it along with New-Orleans for a meeting of recording become legendary. Indeed, it is there that during a pause Little Richard fredonne an absurd title and obscene, Tutti Frutti , that the producer Robert Blackwell, struck by the commercial potential of his melody, makes rewrite in order to modify the words of them. In 1957 thus the recording of Tutti Frutti takes place, which obtains a considerable success at once at the same time as it becomes traditional rock'n'roll.

Serious Little Richard, at this period, several other titles which will make also its fame like Long Tall Sally (1956), RIP It Up (1956), Jenny, Jenny (1957) and Good Golly Miss Molly (1958). Its public appearances remain memorable: with the underlined eyes of a thick layer of kohl and the hair drawn up on the head in Pompadour, Little Richard, upright on a piano, is given up completely, punctuating its songs of a legendary cry (“Woo! ”). Ironically, he is a success even larger after the resumptions - edulcorated - of his songs by white singers like Pat Boone.

From 1958 to 1962, he is singer of gospels and records under the crook of the producer Quincy Jones; in 1961, he becomes Minister for the adventist Church: what does not prevent it from accompanying, during the year 1962, in England, two English groups which belong to its admirors: the Rolling Stones and Beatles.

Between 1964 and 1979, it oscillates between theology and the rock'n'roll, trying to join again several times with success.
