Little Cayman

The island of Little Cayman is one of the three islands of the British Territoire of overseas of the Cayman Islands.

Little Cayman is approximately 16 km long for 1,5 km broad.

History

Christophe Colomb discovered the island on May 10th 1503 and seized some in the name of Spain. He baptized it “ Las Tortugas ” in reference to the many tortoises which populated it.

The island was colonized at the beginning of the 17th century, then abandoned in 1671 following a raid of Corsaire S Spanish. Little Cayman will become British in 1670 at the end of the treated of Madrid.

In 1833, a new colony was established on the site of Blossom Village .
