Celebration is a private Ville American, located in the center of the state of Florida, a few kilometres from Orlando. It with the characteristic to be created, developed and to be managed by the Walt Disney Company. Since 2002 and especially 2004, Disney disengages Celebration partly and does not seem any more to be related to Celebration but historically.
It was to be to some extent the realization of the project launched by Walt Disney of an ideal city, named EPCOT.
Genesis of the project
Celebration was founded in 1994 near the amusement park Walt Disney World Resort on grounds initially designed not to be developed. The grounds were detached from the town of Reedy Creek to which they were legally annexed hitherto.
Futuristic community
The starting idea of Walt Disney, EPCOT, was to build a perfect city, without criminality and with a pleasant framework of life. The town of Walt was a planned futuristic city.
The residential village
In June 1973, Walt Disney Company launches a new project around the city Lake Buena Vista (old Reedy Creek). Four communities must see the day each one on a ludic topic: the golf, tennis, water sport and American west. It are gathered in villages.
During several years the Walt Disney World Company and the residents met points of discord numbers of which taxes and rights to vote within the community. The company decides of exproprier the residents and the buildings are integrated in 1985 into a hotel complex, the Walt Disney World Village Arises.
A return to the traditional city
For the direction of Disney to the beginning of the year 1990, the governing idea was to return to the traditional small town, contrary to the great urban centres of the country. All was done so that a friendly environment reigns between all the inhabitants. All the trade as well as the school and the various leisures are accessible to foot. This idea was launched by Michael Eisner who wanted also the emulation of the residents through the Disney Institute, by taking example on certain communities methodists.The Urbanisme was also particularly neat for him. A famous office of architects of New York had the responsibility to establish the principal plan. A concept of " New Urbanism " with for starting point a lake was selected around whose parks, trade and residential zones are placed (each house not having to be with more than one kilometer and half of the center).
The dwellings follow a whole a preset model of Architecture. There is in all five “accepted” architectural styles, all pre-approvals by Disney and taking as a starting point the houses colonial, Mediterranean, French, of New England or victoriennes. These models are declined in seven different sizes which are mixed in the districts of the city, the architectural cohesion of the unit being ensured by the Disney style.
