List world heritage in Asia and Oceania

This article counts the Asian sites and océanien registered on the Liste of the world heritage by the committee of the world heritage of UNESCO.

General information

The registered sites located in Asia and Oceania are classified by UNESCO in several geographical areas:
  • the zone “Asia and Oceania” gathers the majority of the countries of this area of the world.
  • the Arab countries are classified in the zone “Arab States”; this zone includes/understands countries located in Africa or Asia.
  • the Russia and the Turkey, countries transcontinental, are classified in the zone “Europe and North America”.
  • Israel is registered in the zone “Europe and North America”, even if the adjoining countries all are located in the zone “Asia and Oceania”.
  • the Arménie, the Azerbaïdjan and the Georgia are classified in the zone “Europe and North America”; certain points of view regard them as Asian, but UNESCO did not retain this criterion.
  • the colony of the islands Pitcairn is attached to its metropolitan country, the the United Kingdom (zone “Europe and North America”).
  • Hawaii is attached to the the United States, federation of which this State forms part.

Without discussing the precise localization of all these countries, this article considers Asia and Oceania in the broad sense: there all the countries and territories mentioned are present above, except for the Arab countries obviously located in Africa. In the case of the transcontinental countries (Egypt, Russia and Turkey), all the sites are mentioned, without reference to the continent.

The titles of the sites listed in this article are those given on the site of UNESCO. The dates of inscription are indicated between brackets after the name of each site, like its possible mention on the Liste of the world heritage in danger.
