List traditional names of objects of the solar system in Chinese astronomy
This article lists various traditional names given to bodies of the Solar system (in fact five Planet S visible with the naked eye, the the Moon and the Sun) in Chinese Astronomie.
Planets
Each of five planets visible with the naked eye was seen allotting two names by the Astronome S Chinese. One of them had an astrological dimension , the other was associated with the symbolic system of the five elements of Chinese philosophy (wood, water, fire, ground and metal), as well as several sets of themes each one recut in five categories.

Mercury: Chenxing (Chinese: zh 辰星, pinyin: chénxīng , literally “star in a hurry”), Shuixing (zh 水星, pinyin: shuǐxīng , literally “star of water”)
- Venus: Taibai (zh 太白, pinyin: taìbaí , literally “large white”), Jinxing (zh 金星, pinyin: jīnxīng , literally “metal star”)
- Mars: Yinghuo (zh 荧惑, pinyin: yínghuò ”), Huoxing (zh 火星, pinyin: huǒxīng , literally “star of fire”)
- Jupiter: Suixing (zh 岁星, pinyin: suìxīng , literally “star of the year”), Muxing (zh 木星, pinyin: mùxīng , literally “wood star”)
- Saturn: Zhenxing (zh 鎮星, pinyin: zhènxīng , literally “star exorcist”), Tuxing (zh 土星, pinyin: tǔxīng , literally “star of the ground”)
The moon and Sun
- Sun: IH (zh 日, pinyin: rì ), Taiyang (zh 太阳, pinyin: taìyáng )
- the Moon: Taiyin (zh 太陰, pinyin: taìyīn ), Yue (astronomy) (zh 月, pinyin: yuè )
