List species of birds disappeared

Since 1600, more than one hundred of species of Oiseau X disappeared, whereas the speed of extinction even seems to increase. Hawaii constitutes the most obvious example, where 30% of the endemic species disappeared today. Other areas were also severely touched, like Guam, which saw disappearing 60% from its species in about thirty years, mainly because of the imported Serpent S.

One counts today approximately 10.000 species of birds, including 1.186 in the process of disappearance. Except for 11 species, this disappearance is of human origin.

The insular species, particularly of isolated islands, are threatened. The disproportion of the Rallidé S in the threatened species reflects the tendency of these birds to lose faculty to fly in the event of geographical insulation.

    • Pachyornis mappini
These large birds of New Zealand unable to fly had undoubtedly already disappeared when Europeans unloaded in 1642 there. The extinction of the moa and its principal predator, the Harpagonis would have on arrival of the first Maori S towards -1000. The oldest unloadings, i.e. between 1830 and 1840 mention birds which could have been the last of the moa, but these observations never could be confirmed. New Zealand did not count almost any mammals on its grounds. All the Food chain rested on the birds, the moa being the link low while Harpagonis was at the top of the chain. There existed 10 species, of which the Dinornis robustus , l' Euryapteryx climbed and the Megalapteryx didinus .

One suspected a long time the species of moa described under the names d' Euryapteryx curtus / E. exilis , of E. huttonii / E. crassus and of Pachyornis septentrionalis / P. mappini respectively constituted the males and females of the same species. That was confirmed by the analysis of DNA extracts from bone. Still more interesting, the three expèces Dinornis , D. giganteus = robustus , D. novaezealandiae and D. struthioides proved to be the males and the females of only two species, septentrional ( D. novaezealandiae ), the other Southerner ( D. robustus ). The females were larger than the males, up to 150% in the face and 280% in weight. This phenomenon of opposite Dimorphisme is current at the Ratite S, and the most is marked at the Moa and the kiwi S.

In the passing, the plural of moa is also moa, the maori not knowing marked plural.
