List of LiveCD
A LiveCD is a bootable operating system starting from an external memory support. One distinguishes the liveCDs general practitioners from the liveCDs directed towards a particular field.
General practitioners
The liveCDs general practitioners are not dedicated to a particular field. They give access to all the basic functions of an operating system (tools Internet S, software of Bureautique, reading Multimédia, etc).
Popular
The following liveCDs have a consequent article in the encyclopedia:; Fedora: sponsored distribution by Red Hat. ; Gentoo: Community distribution. ; Kaella: Knoppix Linux Azure, in French. ; Knoppix: based on Debian. Its Environnement of office is KDE. ; Mandriva Linux : distribution of Mandriva. ; Mepis: first Distribution Linux to propose the installation on the hard drive starting from the liveCD. ; Slax: based on Slackware, one of the popular first liveCD. ; SuSE: published by Novell. ; Ubuntu: distribution of the company Canonical Ltd. Are also available Kubuntu (with KDE) and Xubuntu (with Xfce).
Compact
These distributions have the advantage of being able to hold on a small key USB or CD of reduced format. It can also be used to make function a computer having little random access memory or an hard drive of small capacity.The following distributions less do all than 210 Mo, i.e. they can be stored on small CD of 8 cm.
; Damn Small Linux : also called DSL, one of the smallest distributions of GNU/Linux, ideal for the very old PC. Approximately 50 Mo. ; Damn Small Linux Not : also called DSL-N (“Damn Small Linux Not is Not Damn Small Linux! ”) a version of Damn Small Linux with an interface in GTK. Approximately 100 Mo. ; Shone Linux: aim at the facility of use, provides Xfce. Approximately 50 Mo. There exist two additional CD of less than 80 Mo each one. ; Multidistro: gather several compact distributions. Media center
These distributions are very light systems only intended for the multi-media reading. They make it possible to create a Media center if the computer is connected to a television and controlled by a remote control. They can read DVD, and the majority of the video and audio formats. They propose possibly the function of digital video recorder.; GeeXboX: Media center, of the files multimedia can be added with the distribution on CD. ; Limp: media center, the name means Li nux m ultimedia p to bush-hammer. ; LinuxConsole: together of applications for the Multi-media reading (its, video, television), the Office automation and the Video game (emulators of game console).
Science

Safety
