Jean de Châteaugrion, known as of Malestroit took the name of Jean de Derval while becoming lord de Derval in 1435.

From 1532, Derval followed the fortune of Châteaubriant and belonged to the donation made in 1539 by Jean of Laval, baron de Châteaubriant, without child, with the constable Anne de Montmorency.

House of Montmorency

In April 1554 the constable of Montmorency obtained from the king the union of the seigniory of Derval to the baronnie of Chateaubriant. Consequently, there was not any more a baron de Derval, but the ground seigneuriale of this name remained the property of the dukes of Montmorency, then princes of Condé, successively barons de Châteaubriant.

In 1560, three Châtellenie S neighbors were annexed with the baronnie of Derval: Guémené, Jans and Anguignac. They raised then of the king and the Présidial of Nantes, and extended in thirteen parishes: Derval, Saint-Aubin-of-Castles, Saint-Vincent-of-Moors, Jans, Treffieux, Abbaretz, Conquereuil, Guémené, Avessac, Lusanger, Louisfert, Besné and Saint-Nicolas-with-Redon. A fourth small châtellenie, that of Beauregard, formed also part of the baronnie of Derval, but it concerned Rock-in Nort.

The Château is taken, in 1590, by the Duc of Mercoeur. Henri IV makes demolish the castle in 1593.
