List kings de Mide
In the medieval Ireland , the kings de Mide belonged to the Clan Cholmáin, a branch of the Uí Néill. Several of them were Top-kings d' Irlande. After the fall of this kingdom at the 12th century, its dynasty, Ua Mael Sechlainn or the Ó Melaghlin' S, were withdrawn in the west, and were established on left bank of the river Shannon. Members of the nobility Gaelic still bore this name until in the years 1690, but they had then lost for a long time any reality capacity.
The kingdom of Mide seems to have existed as such, with variable dimensions, since at least the beginning of the historical period. Its name means “medium”, showing that it was located in full heart of Ireland, where are now the Comté of Westmeath, a northern part of the Comté of Offaly, south of the Comté of Longford and west of the Comté of Meath. Its first kings can have been Dál Messin Corb, of which some, Uí Garrchon, were the kings of the Leinster.
From the end of the 5th century, they were driven out of their area of origin, the Kildare, beyond the Monts Wicklow by the Ui Néill, whose branch, the Clan Cholmáin, took their place and founded the kingdom of Uisnech.
Unless otherwise specified, the specified dates are the dates of accession and death.
