Of 973 with 1237, the Charolais belongs to the count de Chalon. There is no particular title been dependant on the Charolais.

In 1237, Hugues IV, duke of Burgundy buys it to the count de Chalon, and to its second wire Jean in 1248 gives it. The Charolais would have been set up in county between 1270 and 1316 according to the sources.

When in 1391, Bernard inherits Armagnac and Rodez (following the death of his/her older brother Jean), it wind the Comté of Charolais to Philippe Bold the, duke of Burgundy.

From Philippe the Good, the oldest sons of the dukes of Burgundy receive the county of Charolais of living of their father, in order to be exerted with the exercise of the capacity.

Between 1419 and 1423, Marguerite of Bavaria, widow of Jean without Fear, has the pleasure of the county.

In 1477, Louis XI appendix the county of Charolais to the crown of France and equips it with a Baillage.

In 1493, by the Treated of Senlis, Charles VIII must return the county to the son-in-law of Charles Bold the, the emperor Maximilien de Habsbourg.

At the beginning of the 16th century, the kings de France confiscated on several occasions Charolais (between 1507 and 1509, 1521 and 1526, 1536 and 1544, 1551 and 1559). The kings d' Espagne obtained his restitution with each peace treaty (1526: treaty of Madrid, peace of Cambric, 1544: peace of Crespy, 1559: treated of Cateau-Cambrésis).

During this period, the kings de France again confiscated Charolais (between 1635 and 1668, 1674 and 1678), whose kings d' Espagne obtained the restitution by the peace treaties of Aachen and of Nimègue.

In 1684, for debts contracted by Philippe IV of Spain towards the Large Cop, the Parlement of Paris pronounces the seizure of the county to the profit of this last.

His daughter Anne-Louise was called Miss de Charolais . His daughter Louise-Anne is known under the name of Miss de Charolais .

In 1761, Louis XV appendix the county of Charolais to the crown, by an exchange against the ground of Palaiseau with Louise-Anne.
