Methodology
This list is limited to the territorial Subdivision S which are clearly identified at cities. It thus does not include/understand a Agglomération or of urban Aire, which can include several juridically distinct cities.Certain countries do not define any subdivision of this type. Other countries have local subdivisions without it being possible to determine without ambiguity if they are cities or not, such as for example the Kommune R of Norway. In both cases, no town of these countries is included in the list below.
Specifically, the territorial subdivisions considered are:
- Germany: Urban districts (Kreise), rural districts (Landkreise)
- England: Large Londre (greater London), metropolitan boroughs (metropolitan boroughs), districts not-subways (shire districts)
- Argentinian: municipality
- Australia: Zone of local government identified at a city
- : município
- Canada: Municipality of county, regional Municipality, city
- China: municipality, City-prefecture, under-provincial City
- : Special city (Teukbyeolsi, 특별시, 特別市), metropolitan city (Gwangyeoksi, 광역시, 廣域市), city (If; 시; 市), quoted (Eup; 읍; 邑) and rural district (Myeon; 면; 面), (see, Provinces of South Korea)
- : any subdivision having a local government and identified at a city or an equivalent
- Finland: municipality having a statute of city
- France: common
- India: Municipality (municipal corporations and municipal councils)
- Italy: Commune (common)
- Japan: Urban prefectures (府, fu), cities indicated by ordinance (政令指定都市 seirei-shitei-toshi), special big cities (中核市 chūkaku-shi), cities (特例市 tokurei-shi), cities (市 shi)
