The évêché was removed on November 29th 1801, its territory being attached to those of the Diocèse S of Bayonne and Agen.

It is restored on October 6th 1822, by detachment of that of Bayonne.

Since April 20th 1912, the bishops are officially " bishops of Tarbes and Lourdes".
