List of the bishops of Lescar

( Dioecesis Lascurrensis )

Bishops managed the diocese of the antique Beneharnum until the destruction of this city by the Normands in 841.

After this destruction, the administration of this diocese passed between the hands of the bishops of Gascogne.

The modern city of Lescar was founded at the end of Xe century, on the ruins of the antique quoted.

It is only towards 1040/1059 that one sees appearing to a bishop of Lescar, with Raymond, known as the Old man.

Évêché of Lescar, ninth suffragan of the Archbishop's palace of Auch, included/understood the five archidiaconés of Lescar, Soubestre, Larbaig, Batbielle and the Vic-Bilh.

The bishop of Lescar, lord of this city, was president of the States de Béarn, which, on several occasions, met in the city, and first adviser at the Parliament of Pau.

Évêché of Lescar on November 29th 1801 was removed, and the territory of the diocese attached to that of Bayonne.
