History

Evêché de Vermand then Boundary-line. Vermand ( Veromanduorum civitas ) occupies in the Notice of the provinces of Gaulle , the third rank, after the metropolis, among the cities of second Belgium. It is thought that it was the seat of one évêché as of the beginning of IVe century. This basic city having been ruined in roof by the Barbarians, about the middle of Ve century, the bishops of Vermand remained during some time without fixed place of residence. In 531, holy Medard, fourteenth bishop, definitively establishes his episcopal see with Noyon (NR oviomagnum Noviomum ). The following year, he was elected bishop of Turned, and the two seats remained plain since this moment until in 1146, that the pope Eugene III separated the two churches again and returned to Tournai his particular bishop. Little time after, towards 1160 approximately, évêché of Boundary-line, in compensation undoubtedly of the loss of the Diocèse of Turned, was set up in county-peerage. To the ceremony of the sacring of kings de France, the bishop-count of Noyon carried the royal cross-belt.

Évêché of Boundary-line was removed in 1790. The territory is attached to évêché of Beauvais.
