Established in the middle of IVe century, évêché of Embrun is set up in archbishop's palace in 794. This last for suffrageants had évêchés of Worthy, Vence, Glandève, Senez and Nice. It was added to it, in 1244, that of Fatty.
The seat archiépiscopal was retrogressed in 1790 and became évêché suffrageant of Aix. It was removed in 1802. The diocese was attached to that of Worthy.
The archbishops were princes d' Embrun, counts de Beaufort and of Guillestre.
