The apostolic prefecture Burkinabe of Sore-Dioulasso is created on December 15th, 1927 by detachment of apostolic vicariates of Bamako (Mali) and of Ouagadougou.

It is set up in apostolic vicariate on March 9th 1937, then in évêché on September 14th 1955, finally in archbishop's palace on December 5th 2000.
