House of Thouars

before 876 - 903: Geoffroy Ier . Its successors Savary and Aimery are undoubtedly its sons or its nephews.

903 - 929: Savary I {{er}} . It is faithful of the Count de Poitou Ebles Manzer. It takes part in the assemblies and plaids held by the Count of Poitiers (thus in 903). Ebles rewards it by giving him the supervision for the Abbey for Maixent Saint.

929 - 936: Aimery I {{er}} . Brother of the precedent, it had goods close to Poitiers, it is Avoué Abbey of Saint Maixent (who is very rich). He married Aremburge, they had two wire: Savary II and Aimery II.

936 - 943: Savary II . Wire of the precedent; it did not have any son.

943 - towards 960: Aimery II . Wire of Aimery Ier, it is the brother of Savary II. It was faithful combined of its suzerain Geoffroy Grisegonnelle count d' Anjou, this one allotted goods to him to Chavagné close to the monastery of Maixent Saint, to Faye the Abbess close to Bressuire and to Missé, in the south of Thouars. In 955 it makes gift of grounds, always in Faye the Abbess, the Holy benefit of the Abbey Bonneval Thouars. Aimery II married Aliènor into 935, with which it had a son, Herbert Ier.

towards 960 - 987: Herbert I {{er}} . He is the son of Aimery II. Geoffroy Grisegonnelle, count d' Anjou, appear as suzerain and guard of the Herbert Viscount (it will be the same, moreover, with respect to his son Aimery III). Since approximately 973, Geoffroy was in possession of the strong points of Loudun and Mirebeau and thus enclosed the fields of the Viscount of Thouars. Herbert married into 956 Aldéarde (or Hildegarde) girl of Cadelon Ier, Viscount of Aunay and Sénégonde. In 971, Aldéarde founds the church of Airvault, it died after the year millet. Herbert and Aldéarde had several children: Aimery III, Savary III, Raoul Ier, Thibault and Geoffroy.
Aldéarde remained famous for the mishap which arrived to him about years 980. Having had a connection with the count of Poitiers Proud Guillaume to Arm, it was exposed to the vindication of the woman of this last, Emma of Blois. Emma was avenged by making rudoyer and to rape her rival at the time of a meeting. Aldéarde took refuge then in the castle of Chinon, where it waited until her husband forgives him this action.

987 - 997: Aimery III . It is the son of Herbert Ier and Aldéarde (or Hildegarde) of Aunay. It is quite vassal of the Count Poitiers, but it is recognized also vassal of the Count d' Anjou Foulques III Nerra which is extremely present in this part of Poitou. In 992 the Viscount assists Foulques against the Breton ones for the possession of the County of Nantes and in particular at the time of the Bataille of Conquereuil. Foulques entrusts the guard of Nantes to Aimery during the minority of the small Count Judicaël. In 994 however Aimery moves away durably from alliance Angevine and Foulques builds a fortress with Passavant to control it. He married Elvise but they did not have children together; however Aimery had a natural son, Haimon or Aymon de Dinan, born towards 975, who were Seigneur of Dinan, known as the Viscount, Count in Domnonée.

997 - 1004: Savary III . Brother of the precedent, it Maria twice, of the first bed it had Geoffroy II, of the second bed Hugues born towards 995. Being seized a field pertaining to Lusignan, Savary was always in conflict situation with its neighbor Hugues IV of Lusignan.

1004 - 1015: Raoul . Brother of the precedent, it succeeds to him. His wife is called Aremburge (or Asceline), it has of them two children, Aimery and Thibault and a Aldegarde girl marries Hugues IV of Lusignan. The Duke of Aquitaine and Count de Poitiers Guillaume Large the practiced a policy of balance (with much of duplicity) between Raoul and the Lord de Lusignan in order to neutralize them. Guillaume ruined a marriage between the girl of Raoul and Hugues de Lusignan by proposing this last the widow of Josselin I of Parthenay (which had left only one son in old bottom). But in fact, the duke arranged himself so that this marriage also fails and causes to him the war between the Viscount of Thouars on the one hand and the Lord de Lusignan and the same duke him on the other hand. The Raoul Viscount dies in the end of the year 1014 whereas it ravagait the ground of Hugues de Lusignan.

1015 - 1055: Geoffroy II . It is the son of Savary III,
marié with Agnès of Blois, girl of Eudes I of Blois and Berthe of Burgundy.

1055 - 1093: Aimery IV . Wire of the precedent,
marié with Aregarde girl of Geoffroy de Mauléon and sister of Raoul de Mauléon, then in second weddings it married Ameline.

1093 - 1104: Herbert II . Wire of the precedent, he dies at the time of the First Crusade with Jaffa (Palestine) in 1104. It is the son of Aimery IV and Ameline. It succeeds immediately his father Aimery IV. February 10th, 1096, the bishop of Poitiers Pierre restores the abbey of Airvault, with the agreement of Herbert, Viscount of Thouars, wire of late the Aimery Viscount. December 7th, 1099, its family surrounds Arbert at the time of the dedication of the Saint Nicolas's Day church of the Chair, started with her father and whom it completed; one then finds near him his Geoffroy brother, known as of Tiffauges, his Hildegardis sister who is woman of Hugues de Lusignan, and his uncle Raoul, known as of Mauléon.
At that time one can measure the extent of the Vicomté of Thouars by the strongholds which concern it. They are Bressuire, Doué, Passavant, Argenton the Castle, Airvault, the Drill on Separates, Montaigu, the Rock on yon, Tillé, Chateaumur, Pouzauges, Essarts, Lezay, Commequiers, and others encore.
As much of his contemporaries, the Herbert Viscount went to Palestine, the first time in 1098. He sets out again with his Geoffroy brother in 1102 within the framework of the crusade led by the Duke Guillaume IX of Aquitaine. Its banner was of sown gold of flower of lily of azure to the frank district of mouths. These armorial bearings remained those of its house, they then became those of the town of Thouars. Many pilgrims died during the way of Constantinople to Jerusalem. At the time when Herbert wanted to set out again in France, he dies in Jaffa in 1104. He was buried close to the church Saint Nicolas of Jaffa. He had married towards 1095 Agnes with whom he had two wire, Aimery VI and Herbert.

1104 - 1123: Geoffroy III . Brother of the precedent,
marié in 1094 in Ameline.

1123 - 1127: Aimery V . Wire of the precedent,
marié with Agnès girl of Guillaume IX of Poitiers.

1127 - 1139: Aimery VI . It is the son of Herbert II,
marié with Mathilde of Aquitaine.

1139 - 1151: Guillaume I {{er}} . It is the son of Aimery V.

1151 - 1173: Geoffroy IV . Brother of the precedent,
marié with Aimé de Lusignan, girl of Hugues VII Brown the and of Sarrazine. He will marry one of his sons Guy de Thouars with Constance of Brittany.

1173 - 1226: Aimery VII . Wire of the precedent,
marié with Agnès of Laval, girl of the baron Guy V of Laval and Agathe. Then in second weddings he marries Marie.

1226 - 1229: Hugues I {{er}} . Brother of the precedent,
marié with Marguerite de Vihiers.

1229 - 1233: Raymond I {{er}} . Brother of Aimery VII and Hugues Ist.

1233 - 1242: Guy I {{er}} . Wire of Aimery VII,
marié with Alix de Mauléon, girl of Savary Ier de Mauléon and of Belleassez de Pareds Rams of Pouzauges.

1242 - 1246: Aimery VIII . Brother of the precedent,
marié with Béatrix de Machecoul Rams Rock on Yon (widowed of Guillaume de Mauléon Seigneur of Talmond).

1246 - 1256: Aimery IX . Wire of Guy Ier,
marié with Marguerite de Lusignan, widow of Raymond VII Count de Toulouse.

1256 - 1269: Renaud or Regnault de Thouars . Brother of the precedent,
marié with Aliènor de Soissons.

1269 - 1274: Savary IV . Brother of the precedent,
marié with Agnès de Pons.

1274 - 1308: Guy II . Wire of Aimery IX,
marié with Marguerite de Brienne.

1308 - 1332: Jean I {{er}} . Wire of the precedent, blanche

1333 - 1370: Louis I {{er}} . Wire of Jean Ier,
marié with Jeanne de Dreux, girl of Jean de Dreux and Silly goose of Sully. Then in second weddings he married Isabeau d' Avaugour widow of Geoffroy VIII of Chateaubriant.

House of Craon

1370 - 1397: Silly goose and Amaury de Craon . Oldest daughter of the precedent,
mariée with Amaury IV of Craon ; with died of this last in 1376 she married Tristan Rouault de Boisménard .

  • With it dies out the elder branch of the first family of Thouars which had the Viscount more than five centuries.

House of Amboise

  • With died of Silly goose of Craon her sister Isabeau (widow of Guy de Nesle Lord of Mello and Marshal of France) is married with Ingelger I Lord of Amboise and Berrie. It has of them two wire Pierre and Ingelger, and two girls, it is the groin of those, Pierre II of Amboise which takes the succession of the Viscount.

1397 - 1426: Pierre II . It is the grandson of Louis Ier de Thouars,
marié with Jeanne de Rohan then with Anne (Isabelle) of Goyon.

1426 - 1469: Louis d' Amboise . It is the Grandson D' Isabeau and of Ingelger Ier d' Amboise (he is the son of Ingelger Seigneur of Rochecorbon and Jeanne de Craon); with died of his uncle Pierre II of Amboise he becomes Vicomte of Thouars, Seigneur of Amboise, Bléré and Montrichard, Counts de Guines, Seigneur of Talmond, Marans, of the Ile de Ré, etc…
marié with Marie de Rieux girl of Jean III Lord of Rieux and Rochefort and Béatrix de Montauban.

House of France

  • In 1469 the King Louis XI allotted the Viscount of Thouars to his Anne daughter who was then promised in marriage to Nicolas of Anjou.

1469 - 1472: Anne of France and Nicolas of Anjou . Anne is the Girl of king de France Louis XI. Anne was promised in marriage to Nicolas of Anjou. But that Ci betrays the King and approached the Duke of Burgundy, in more it died in 25 years in 1473.

  • Louis XI recovered the Viscount then.

1472 - 1483: Louis XI, king de France . Louis XI ends up engaging the attribution of the Viscount of Thouars in Louis of Trémoïlle but the King died (August 30th, 1483) before the effective restitution of this Viscount.

House of Trémoïlle

  • In March 1468 Francoise d' Amboise (second girl of Louis d' Amboise) was made Religieuse Carmelite nun and it yielded all its rights to its Louis nephew of Trémoïlle wire of his Marguerite sister. It is thus of right that the Viscount of Thouars returned to him in 1483.

1483 - 1525: Louis II . It is the grandson of Louis d' Amboise, Marguerite her mother (third girl of Louis d' Amboise), Maria with Louis Ier of Trémoille (the son of Georges of Trémoille and Catherine of Isle Bouchard) in 1445. He is also prince of Talmont, count de Guînes and of Bénon, baron de Sully, of Craon, Montagu, Mauléon and the Island-Bouchard, lord of the Ile de Ré, Rochefort and Marans, and First Chambellan of the king.

1525 - 1541: François . Grandson of the precedent,
marié on January 23rd, 1521 with Anne of Laval girl of Guy XVI of Laval, count de Laval and of Charlotte of Aragon-Naples.

  • Louis III took part in the Wars of religion, to reward it, the king Charles IX of France had, in the month of July 1563, set up the Viscount of Thouars in duchy.

  • It twelfth and last duke of Trémoïlle, Louis Jean, was buried in 1933 in the Vault of the Castle of Thouars (death in a fire in England).
