List Canadian federal legislatures
This is a list of the Canadian federal legislatures , i.e. the composition of the House of Commons of Canada. The House of Commons is the Lower House Parlement of Canada, which also includes/understands a Upper House (the Sénat of Canada). As it is the only component of the Parliament of Canada which is directly elected, the majority of the important bills have their origin with the House of Commons. A new legislature is formed after each general election and can sit for one five years maximum duration. The number of seats at the Parliament varied as new provinces united with the country and that the distribution of the population through the provinces changed; there are currently 308 deputies and 105 senators (when no vacancy ago). The chief of the political party with the most seats with the House of Commons becomes Prime Minister, even if this person itself is not elected. The chief of the party with the second greater number of seats to the communes becomes the Chef of the Opposition, and the debates between the two parties are chaired by the President of the House of Commons. When the party with the most seats has less than half of the seats to the communes, it forms a Minority government which can be demolishes at any moment by the opposition parties. The Parliament of Canada is located on the Colline of the Parliament in the Canadian capital, Ottawa.
The legislature which seat currently is the 39e legislature of Canada since the Canadian Confédération of 1867.
