Lir

Lir , in the Celtic Mythology Irish, is the god of the sea, which is the significance of its name, it is a supreme god of the Tuatha Dé Danann. He is the father of Manannan Mac Lir, Blessed Bran the and Branwen.

In the Welsh tradition, it is Llyr , father of Manawyddan Fab Llyr and the twins Nisien and Evnissyen, resulting from the union with Pernaddun. It has also a girl, Fionnuala, whose name of the mother is not mentioned.

This god would be at the origin of the character the King Lear of William Shakespeare.

In the Garden off Remembrance (Dublin, garden which commemorates the victims of the fight for the independence of Ireland) a sculpture is off entitled Children Lir , work of Oisín Kelly.
