Liquefaction

The liquefaction is a Changement of state which makes pass a trade gas to the state Liquide. It is the reverse transformation of the Vaporisation. The vulgar use calls sometimes this transformation Condensation liquid. It can occur by compression or cooling of a gas.

Liquefaction in Seismology

At the time of a Earthquake of strong amplitude, there exists a phénomème known as of liquefaction of the sandy grounds. The shock waves compress the ground more quickly than the water which cannot escape thus making climb the pressure of the latter. The more the pressure of water increases, the more water supports the load and the less the Sable supports it. At this point in time the ground loses its cohesion and starts to run like a liquid.

Liquefaction is one of the observations which characterize degree VIII of the European macroseismic scale.
