Lipizzan

The Lipizzan is a race of Cheval, originating in a Haras of Slovenia, located at Lipica, close to Trieste (old name, Italian and German, Lipizza).

History of the race

It is in 1580 that the Empereur Charles de Habsbourg created the race. The courses Européen born used Pure Spanish race S for their character and their elegance. However it was difficult to import them until into Slovenia and for this reason it made import some standard S and Jument S Andalou S and Spanish and crossed them with local horses: Lipizzan had been born.

After the fall of the Empire Austro-Hungarian and wars in the area dispersed the race.

Today it is the emblem of famous the Spanish École of comes.

Characteristics

The size of the Lipizzan varies between 1,50 and 1,60 Mr. the foalta are born bai or black, but it is at the adulthood that it become completely white. Some horses keep however to them dress bay at the adulthood.

In general, the physique of these horses resembles that of its ancestors, the Pure Spanish race S: proud and raised paces, an expressive head and abundantly provided hairs.

Of a flexible temperament, it is a very intelligent horse, with an exceptional memory and a great sensitivity. Lipizzans are completely ripe only towards the age of 6-7 years, which is late enough for a horse, but they have a relatively long life: about thirty years.

Use

It is above all in high-school that Lipizzans excel: Passage, Piaffer, Levade, etc

One also finds them under the saddle of riders of more traditional Dressage or for the light attachment.
