Lionel Richie
Lionel Brockman Richie, Jr (June 20th 1949 with Tuskegee, Alabama -) is a singer and musician American Soul author of several tubes during the the Eighties. He sold more than 100 million albums in the world.
Biography
The beginnings of Lionel Richie are done with The Commodores (Milan Williams, Ronald LaPread, William King Jr, Thomas McClary and Walter “Clyde” Orange), a group which it founds with his buddies of university. The name of the group was found by chance in the dictionary. The group is made known and gained, during a hearing in 1971, the chance to belong to the concerts of the Jackson 5. Richie signs the majority of successes of Commodores towards the end of the the Seventies as Three Times has Lady and Still .The media being interested more and more in Richie, in 1980, it begins a career solo. He writes and produced for Kenny Rogers the tube Lady . This year its duet with Diana Ross Endless Love (BO of film of the same name) at the head remains sales nine weeks of continuation, a record at the time.
Its album Lionel Richie (1982) caracol at the head of the sales. It obtains even the diamond disc with more than 10 million sold albums. Can' T Slow Down raises Richie with the row of superstar.
At the time of the Olympic Games of Los Angeles in 1984, the organizers announced a guest surprised for the closing ceremony. Much thought of Michael Jackson. But it is Lionel Richie which made the spectacle with All Night Long in front of more than 2,3 billion téléspectacteurs by the world.
In 1985, it Co-writing with Michael Jackson We Are the World , quadruple platinum disc and brings back million dollars for the benefit of the fight against the famine in Africa.
The same year, it composes Say You Say Me , original soundtrack of the film White Nights .
In 1986, it leaves Dancing one the Ceiling
Its prize list of rewards is impressive: ten American Music Awards, six People' S Choice Awards and a Golden Globe.
After its three albums, Lionel Richie decides to stop during almost ten years.
In 1990, Richie and his first wife adopt a nine year old girl Nicole Escovedo. The girl of Peter Escovedo, brother of Sheila E and a woman which one will know that it was the assistant of Richie during her world tour of the Eighties. Nicole lived already with Richie since the two years age. She made an appearance in the media with her comparse Paris Hilton in the emission of TV-reality The Simple Life . Michael Jackson is her godfather.
In 1996, Richie makes its come-back with the album Louder Than Words which was a mitigated success. In 2001, it returns with Renaissance .
In 2004, its album Just for You , in spite of an important promotion with the Television and the radio, reaches only the 47e place in the American charts.
September 12th 2006 leaves its eighth album Coming Home .
It became in 2006, the official godfather of the Star Academy 6th edition. Lionel Richie encloses the ceremony of the NRJ Music Awards 2007 by a service with the DJ Bob Sinclar.
