Linux From Scratch

Linux From Scratch ( Linux starting from zero , often shortened in LFS ), is a project initiated by Gerald Beekmans which makes it possible to build its clean Distribution Linux starting from the sources of the core and to include/understand the inner working of a system GNU/Linux.

In fact, the project Linux From Scratch is a document (delivers) reporting the various stages to create a Linux system. In August 2007, the stable version of book LFS is the 6.3. There exists a version of development of the book which is updated regularly.

The principle as such is very simple. On the basis of an existing distribution Linux (directed development) or of Live CD LFS, the user compiles all the essential source programs in a distinct partition, by using the tools for compilation of the distribution host. That constitutes a starting environment for the construction of the Linux core to personalize. Then, it is placed in the aforementioned partition, and recompile all the program S, one by one, but with the tools of compilation produced at the preceding stage.

The result is a very fast, optimized system and entirely personalized which meets the user's needs
