Linux-Quebec
Linux-Quebec , founded in 1997, is a group dedicated to the promotion of Linux to the Quebec. Its official Internet site is Linux-Québec.org.
History
Based in September 1997 by Jacques Gélinas and Michel Dagenais, on the traces of the association of the users of open systems of Montreal (Uniforum Montreal), Linux-Quebec had the role of helping the users present and future of Linux to Quebec to discover the advantages of Linux, to exploit it effectively, just as to carry out the advantages of the Free software. At the winter 2001, Nicolas Marchildon decided to launch a call to start again the activities of the group. Ten people answered and worked hard for redynamiser the organization. Their first mandate was the recasting of the Web site.
Since 2003-2004, several members of Linux-Quebec founded an organization on a purely official basis for the promotion of the Free software in Quebec, FACIL. (There was the AQP3L: Québécois association for linux and free software little before FACIL). Separation enters the two organizations forever be very clear. The fact that the two entities divide the same Web server, the same calendar and same the people can lead to confusion. However, certain members are identified only with one of the entities, while others collaborate actively in both.
Lastly, the members of Linux-Quebec do not define the regrouping as a User group Linux (GUL) regional or student.
