Linköping

Linköping is the seventh agglomeration of Sweden with 96  458 inhabitants. It is the chief town of the Commune of Linköping in the Comté of Östergötland.

The town of Linköping was as of the 12th century the center of the historical province of Östergötland and then became the seat of the évêché of Linköping. Since the XVIIe century, it is also the chief town of the Comté of Östergötland. The Cathédrale of Linköping is one of the principal cathedrals of Sweden.

The city grew much since the creation of the Université of Linköping in 1975. On this campus several research centres were created at the same time. The research institute on the safety of transport (VTI Väg och trafikinstitutet) is one.

Linköping is also an industrial town and the center of the Swedish aircraft industry, thanks to the aeronautical factory of the firm Saab.

With the city close to Norrköping, Linköping forms an area sometimes considered as the fourth urban Aire of Sweden as a population. The three urban surfaces most important are 1) that formed by the towns of Stockholm and Uppsala, 2) that of Gothenburg and 3) that formed by the towns of Malmö and Lund.

Industry

One of the largest employer of Linköping is Saab which produces in other the fighter plan SAAB Gripen double turbo engine SAAB 340. The city also has an important presence in data processing like Sectra, Industrial Financial Systems, Ericsson and well of others.
