Linguistic Census
The linguistic census was a shutter of the decennial Recensement held in Belgium starting from 1846. The goal was to inquire into the use and the knowledge of the languages in multilingual Belgium.
Résutats of the linguistic censuses
The census of 1846 inquired only into the language usually employed. As from 1866 the census related to the knowledge of the various national languages. From 1910 one questioned on knowledge but also on the language used most frequently, without to specify in which context (life private, public, work).
