Linguère

Linguère is a city of the Senegal located at 305 km in the North-East of Dakar. It is more the big city of a semi-desert zone, the Ferlo.

History

Administration

The commune is the chief town of the Département of Linguère, in the area of Louga.

Geography

It is a city-stage when one goes Dakar to Matam by the trunk road N3, but the road transforms there into track with difficulty pratiquable as of Linguère and this until Matam.

The localities closest to Linguère are Guithie, Balel Sala, Ndia Bondiel, Ardo Mademba, Mbadiene and Diori.

Geological physics

The climate is of type sahélien (hot and dry), the Harmattan which blows eight month there per annum contributes to the Désertification of the area.

Population

The population is mainly of origin wolof.

At the time of the censuses of 1988 and 2002, the population amounted respectively to 9.824 and 11.667 inhabitants.

In 2007, according to the official estimates, Linguère would count 13.610 people.

Economic activities

One produced there Groundnut, Millet, Niébé ( Vigna unguiculata ).

The city has an aerodrome, currently closed with the public.
