Lingons

The Lingons - Latin Lingones - are one of the Gallic Peuples. They gave their name to their capital Andematunum , today Langres.

Part of Lingons had been also established in Italy to the IV E, with the mouth of the Po in Romagna.

History

The Lingons was Celtic people of the Gaulle, established between the the Seine and the Marne. Some of interval emigrated beyond the the Alps, being established in Gaulle cisalpine (septentrional Italy), in the province of Ferrare (Delta of Po), around 400 a.v.J.C. They took part in the Sac of Rome of 390 a.v.J.C.

After the conquest of Gaulle by Jules César, at the 1st century, these people “were romanisé”. Their rich person area, corresponding aujourdhui to the department of the Haute-Marne, in the east of current the départments of the Yonne and the Coast-with Or and with the south-east of the Aube urbanized and they started to beat currency.

Their capital was Andemantunum/Langres.

Combined Romans at the time of the conquest of Gaulle by Jules César, they took share, into 69, with their chief Iulius Sabinus, with the revolt of the Bataves, about which Tacite speaks. And, also, are quoted by Sesto Giulio Frontino, author of “Stratagemata”. And two troops of Lingons are announced on inscriptions of II and IIIième century in England.
