Line of Vincennes

The line of Vincennes is a French line of Railroad open starting from the September 22nd 1859, which connected to its apogee the Gare of the Bastille, Paris to Verneuil-l' Étang via Vincennes and made 54,1 kilometers length.

History of the line

The line of Vincennes was proposed to fill the absence of railroads between the line PLM, which pass by Melun and begin with Gare de Lyon, and the line of Troyes, which begins with Gare from the East and passes by Verneuil-l' Étang and Longueville. The company of the railroads from Paris to Strasbourg thus obtains by imperial decree of August 17th 1853 the concession of the line, intended to serve the Méandre S of the Marne in Seine-et-Oise until the Gare of the Game preserve - Chennevières. Vis-a-vis success met, the company decided to prolong the line on several occasions, first of all until the Gare of Sucy - Bonneuil on September 5th, 1872 then until Boissy-Saint-Leger on July 9th, 1874, to reach Brie-Count-Robert on August 5th, 1875. In spite of the opposition of the company, the line was prolonged last once until Verneuil-l' Étang, on the line of Paris with Troyes, on July 1st, 1892. In 1893, the line was prolonged until Marles-in-Brie but under another name of line.

From the years 1920, the Compagnie of the Subway of Paris started to think of the consequences of the urbanization of the Parisian suburbs, territory on which the subway could not reach, because of its gauge. It was thus proposed to prolong the suburban lines inside the capital. The priority was given to the Ligne of Seals which became the prototype of this embryo of the RER, while the line of Vincennes was maintained in a state of under investment, keeping for example its steam trains. Consequently, its frequentation decreased, and its rural section was gradually closed with the passenger traffic: as of the summer 1939 for the section Brie-Count-Robert - Verneuil-l' Pond and in 1958 for the Boissy-Saint-Leger section - Brie-Count-Robert. The activity of this section consequently was strictly limited to the goods traffic.

The projects of the RER having been started again during the years 1950, were then decided the electrification and the transformation of the section suburbs of the line to integrate it into what became the line thereafter has the RER. However, it was decided to give up the station of Bastille, in order to insert the trains in Paris since Vincennes directly by Nation. July 14th, 1969, shortly after midnight, the last train left the station of the Bastille for Boissy-Saint-Leger, and at the time of the service of the morning the RER was set up, at the time on the Nation section - Boissy-Saint-Leger only, thus marking the end of the line of Vincennes.

If a goods traffic will perdura on certain portions of the rural section of the line, the Bastille section - Vincennes was it quickly unused. Its viaduct of the place of the Bastille to the Porte of Montempoivre in Paris was transformed into green casting, the planted Promenade. With the beginning of the year 1990 the totality of the line was definitively deposited and closed with any traffic, while within the framework of the interconnection East the south-eastern TGV borrow the layout of the line of Vincennes from Villecresnes.
