Lindos

Lindos (in Greek old Λίνδος / Líndos ) is a city and an archeological site located on the east coast of Rhodos.

History

Mentioned in the Catalog of the vessels, it is founded according to the tradition by the Doriens with It belongs to the Hexapole dorienne, which also includes/understands the two cities rhodiennes Ialysos and Camiros, as well as the cities of minor Asia Cos, Cnide and Halicarnasse. The city counts two famous temples then, one dedicated to Athéna Lindia, the other with Héraclès. Its Acropole revealed inscriptions and monuments in the shape of vessels, whose form is not without evoking the base of the Victoire de Samothrace.

Its most famous native is Cléobule, one of the wise Seven.
