Linda Hamilton (born Linda Carroll Hamilton , the September 26th 1956 with Salisbury, Maryland, the United States) is an American actress.

She is mainly known to have interpreted the character of Sarah Connor in famous films of Science-fiction, Terminator in 1984 and Terminator 2: The last Judgment in 1991.

Its catalog of films counts, inter alia, the televised series the Beautiful one and the Animal but also the film, the Peak of Dante and the telefilm The Color off Courage .

Was the wife of the realizer with success, James Cameron. Their divorce, in 1999, remains one of most expensive in Hollywood.

Family and adolescence

Linda was born six minutes before his/her identical twin sister, Leslie. They have also an older sister, Laura (a brilliant lawyer in Washington, cd.) and a younger brother, Ford (an accountant). As for the binocular of Linda, she follows the occupation of nurse specialized in pediatry and now resides in the New Jersey.
Their parents (their father was doctor, it is deceased in an car accident when Linda and Leslie were 5 years old, their mother was remariée) tried to initiate them with arts as of their more young age. Their father adored the theater, the opera and the classical music while their mother liked the seam and painting. The four children grew on the Chesapeake Bay and were provided education for with the Wicomico High School in Salisbury.

Linda suffered, since its childhood, that people did not distinguish it from his/her twin sister. At the 16 years age, this frustration caused a severe crisis of identity: it cut its hair and voluntarily reached the weight of 75 kilos right to assert its clean identité.
" I wanted to become ugly. I became the intellectual one, the opposite one of my sister the majorette."

In spite of the fact that Linda started to play the comedy as of its young age, it never became the idea to make a career of it: its project was to become Archéologue or Pompier.

Theater

To have interpreted the role of Sleeping Beauty is one of its first memories:
" My mother took some imitation jewelleries of one of her costumes and made a crown for me. I was. I will never forget the joy felt with this instant."
Linda had found its way: " I like to play. I always liked. I made theater for children when I was young. No the particular talent for as much. You know, I have a sister twins then they had put to us together. I am sure that they thought that it would be really nice to have the Hamilton binoculars for the same role. I discovered my passion to play là." at this time;

Its passion for the comedy continued to increase during its work with a playing group of children of the theater with Salisbury.

At the secondary school, Linda was the assistant of the repeater and had also directed a play. After having been graduate of Wicomico High School, in 1974, it had been registered with the Washington College with Chestertown (Maryland). There, it took part in some productions of students drawn from Prométhée connected of Eschyle like The Adding Machine of Elmer Rice.

Little time afterwards, Linda joined the Kent Players , a theatrical troop based with Chestertown and played in parts of which the Trap (The Mousetrap) of Agatha Christie, Vu Bridge (View from The Bridge has) of Arthur Miller but also in the musical adaptation of Importance to be Constant (The Importance off Being Earnest) of Oscar Wilde and in an adapted part of the news Tom Jones of Henry Fielding.
After 2 years spent to the Washington College , it decided to go to New York in order to study in a school of dramatic arts. Left with his/her small-friend the time, Linda was registered with famous the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in 1976. There, it could study the technique of play and, inter alia, received the teaching of Nicholas Ray.

In 1989, a short return to Washington College enabled him to receive the Alumni Citation indicating it " coed exceptionnelle".

Career

Beginning on television

Following many appearances in productions of students, it is a small role in the televised series Search for Tomorrow which enabled him to begin its carrière.
Its agency realizing that Linda was adapted little to the theater, then encouraged it to try its chance with Los Angeles. In 1979, it borrowed 2,000 $ and left for the California. Once its first gained role, an appearance in Shirley , it was with its last 6 dollars.

Meeting, Grater and Marriage: The Rideout Puts and Secrets off Midland Heights belongs to its first roles on television.

Terminator (The Terminator)

It is in 1984 that the career of Linda took a decisive turn thanks to science fiction film, Terminator of James Cameron.
She interpreted Sarah Connor, an young woman living and working in Los Angeles as waitress. Its life turns to the nightmare when a killer relentless (Arnold Schwarzenegger) continues it for unexplained reasons. Apparently, he seeks and kills, all the women naming Sarah Connor.
At this point in time a man, Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn), forces his assistance to him in order to protect it. It reveals to him shortly after that in the future, a data-processing network called Skynet will be created by military programmers in order to work out strategic decisions, but imprévisiblement develops its own conscience. Panicked, those try to close it but Skynet wanting to preserve its existence, takes the control of the major part of the military material of the world and lance a thermonuclear attack killing quasi all the humanité.
However, there remain survivors in front of now fighting against the machines, Terminator, created by Skynet to destroy them. But thanks to John Connor, their chief, the men learned how to defend themselves and are close to the victory. In front of its incapacity with débarasser completely of the human remainders and knowing them close to the victory, Skynet sends in the past, in 1984, one of its Terminator: a cyborg with the appearance humanoïde from which the mission is to eliminate Sarah Connor, future mother of the chief of resistance. John Connor then decides to send, at the same time, one of his men, the sergeant Kyle Reese, to protect his mother from Terminator.

At the end of film, a few months were passed since the last events. Sarah now only finds herself, Terminator having killed all her close relations: his/her friend, Ginger, her mother and Kyle, whereas they had just started their relation amoureuse.
Its life being radically changed, one finds it, travelling through the Mexico leaving its past to Los Angeles thus.
Despite everything, it is stronger discovery, having finished by destroying itself the machine programmed for the tuer.
Sarah prepares with the difficult future which also awaits it but tinted hope: she is pregnant of her son, John, whose father is not other than Kyle Reese.

The character of the shy person and fragile Sarah Connor led Linda to interpret, 7 years later, a frightening Sarah, mother lost of a teenager and broken psychologically in the continuation worship of Terminator, Terminator 2: The Last Judgment (Terminator 2: Judgment Day) where it met the greatest success of its career.

The Beauty and The Beast

The year 1987 made it possible Linda to make a return to its first beginnings: television with the series The Beauty and The Beast where it incarnated a lawyer, Catherine Chandler, living an impossible history of love with a man-lion, Vincent.

The series which will meet a pretty success ended, after 3 seasons, in 1990.

Terminator 2: The Last Judgment (Terminator 2: Judgment Day)

In March 1990, Linda agreed to take again the role of Sarah Connor in Terminator 2: The Last Judgment .
In this continuation, 10 years passed since Sarah had destroyed Terminator programmed to kill it and give rise to her son, John (Edward Furlong). The personality of Sarah having strongly changed, because of the events of 1984, it moved away from people and his son who believes it alienated. Interned against its will in a psychiatric institution, Pescadero State Hospital, Sarah thus lose the guard of John, become a teenager rebelle.
During this time, Skynet, the data-processing network, sends future Terminator more improved, T-1000 (Robert Patrick) in order to kill John while the survivors of the nuclear war recover Terminator T-800 (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and reprogram it in order to send it in the past to protect John from T-1000.

While becoming a woman stronger and leaving thus far behind it, the timid and weak waitress fighting to take her destiny in hands, Sarah was almost a new role for Linda: she became warlike qualified having a hiding-place of weapons and contacts with military guerillas. Its goal is now to protect his/her son and to form it with his future role as a chief of resistance humaine.
Thus, 13 weeks, before the turning of film does not begin, Linda followed an intensive sporting drive: " I worked with a coach, six days per week: aerobics, jogging, trampoline but especially of the bodybuilding." and had been also involved with the shooting in order to make its character more authentic and more credible. Once its metamorphosed body, it was necessary for him still to enter the warlike spirit of Sarah. A formation very testing with an Israeli commando, helped it to reach that point. With the program: operate weapons, formation of mission, judo and mental discipline. When the production had finally started, Linda, which had taken 18 kilos during its pregnancy, was however thin. Although its weight was equal to that of 1984 in Terminator, its body was now nothing any more but muscles. Its interpretation succeeds, Sarah Connor remaining a mythical character with his famous quotation:

" No the destiny but what us faisons."

The film whose budget of more or less 100 million dollars constituted a record at the time brought back a benefit of 204,8 million only for the United States. Left on July 3rd, 1991 in the American rooms, it thus met an enormous success with the boxoffice and was the outstanding film of the year.

Terminator 2: The Last Judgment gained 4 Oscars of which:

  • the Oscar of the best visual effects

  • the Oscar of the best sound

After the international success of 1991

In spite of the fact of being arrived at its apogee, in 1991, the career of Linda took in continuation a calmer turning and less commercial.
At the time of Terminator 2, she explained to a journalist asking him why its statute of star had not increased after first Terminator, that it was due to a personal choice:
" If I had really wanted it, I could have taken similar roles. I did not want it; after people do not only recognize you as that which gained the celebrity with… ".

The following year was a little charged with the film Separate Live and the 2 telefilms, The Way to Dusty Death, has Mother' S Prayer where Linda interpreted a woman discovering her Séropositivité after the death of her husband. Initially refusing to admit it, it turns shortly after its attention on the problem of what will arrive at his/her son after his mort.
It is after having played in the thriller Shadow Conspiracy , in 1997, qu' one found it in an action film. It was thing made thanks to film, the Peak of Dante (Dante' S Peak) . Linda divided there the poster with the actor Pierce Brosnan. The scenario catastrophe puts in scene a small town located at the foot of a Volcan in the state of Washington, the USA whose safety is threatened by the last seismic activities of this one. The film mixes adventure, drama but also romanticism between the character of Rachel Wando, the mayor of Peak Dante interpreted by Linda and the volcanologist, Harry Dalton, incarnated by Pierce.
An appearance in the humorous series Frasier finished the année.

" I like this campus. I knew my first love here. I met my best friend here. I lost my best friend here. And I knew my first failure here. My difficulties defined me more than my successes. I became a better human being about it. You live in a country of opportunities. There will be no roads which will be closed to you. And if there are no roads, make of news. Your true education has just started. Remain avid. To make more, you must give more and to divide more. If you give to the world more than you do not take, you always rich and will be crowned success. The girl in me say: thank you for this good departure. The coed in me say: lily all that you can. The mother in me say: I love you all, often come to the house. And the friend in me say: good luck, I believe in toi."

The father of Linda suffered from bipolar Trouble called maniaco-depression formerly and very early, Linda presented the symptoms of them. However, she refused a long time to look after herself with drugs: this idea frightened him. Almost all its life was the alternation of a state of euphoria in a state of sadness and despair with in the interval of the periods of mood normale.
But, at the end of its 30 years, Linda finally agreed to look after itself using drugs: " Finally I went and I accepted. Thus God made me. The life is a little bit harder for me. When that it had become exhausting, I asked of the assistance. I believe that the antidepressants saved my vie."
Today still, it continues its treatment. Its life while having become lighter, Linda feels better in its skin.

Problem of drug and alcohol

In 1982, an unforeseen event made rock the life of Linda in the hell of the Cocaïne and the alcool.
When it was time to regulate the installment of its property, she discovered that its manager, Harvey Glass, had diverted 107,000 $ of his incomes. " It was a nightmare, I had to make a loan in order to be able to pay this acompte." Its frustration being terrible, it began with sniffer cocaine. Having become very dependant, Linda and a friend went until buying 28 of them gr. and sniffèrent it complètement.
" There are drugs which stimulate the heart but cocaine is one which closes just the heart. It is really horrible of sniffer drugs. I stopped myself but at one time I was afraid to have to return in a detoxification center. I was really in difficulté."
Alcohol was also a problem at that time.

Finally after 3 years, Linda succeeds in giving up the misdeeds of drug and alcohol.

" I like to be at the house with them. It is pleasant to be fully present, even if to be unmarried mother has her disadvantages. Above all, I moved away them as much as possible from Hollywood. I think that the children need normal parents, they do not want important celebrities or parents. They do not want them different from the autres."
