Lincoln Tunnel
To New York, the Lincoln Tunnel crosses the Hudson to connect the island of Manhattan (on the level of Chelsea) to Weehawken (New Jersey) on the continent.
The construction of the first gallery of the tunnel began in 1934, under the direction of Ole Singstad, and was completed in 1937. Two additional galleries were bored in 1945 and 1957. The overall costs of work reached 75 million dollars. The tunnel on the whole offers 6 lanes for the vehicles. During the rush hours in morning, a roadway is reserved for the buses.
Approximately 120.000 vehicles borrow it each day, which does of it one of the highway Tunnel S the most attended in the world.
Lincoln Tunnel was in the list of the targets chosen by islamist terrorists in 1993, but they were stopped before putting their plan at execution.
