Limont-fountain

Limont-Fountain is a common French, located in the department of the Northern (59) and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Its inhabitants is called Limontifontains.

Geography

Located between Maubeuge and Avesnes-on-Helpe, between Valley of Sambre and Avesnois (on the territory of the Regional natural park of Avesnois).

History

The territory was formerly divided into two Paroisse S: Limont and Fontaine. The Hameau of Fountain preserved its church, old Chapelle of the Monastère. Property of the Abbey of Hautmont, the church of Limont was a parish of the décanat of Avesnes while that of Fountain belonged to the décanat of Maubeuge.

In 1654, the village was devastated by the French troops of the garrison of Own way.
