It is the short cut of Wireless Internet Hotspot whose equivalent in French is limits Wi-Fi or not Wi-Fi . It is then about a public place with strong multitude and clearly delimited (for example: coffee, hotel, station…) giving access to a Wireless networking which allows to the users mobile terminals to be easily connected to Internet. At the beginning of 2006, there would be 100.000 hotspots in the world. Many directories of hotspots are now available on line in order to facilitate the search for hotspots everywhere in the world, such as for example the locator of hotspots Trustive, JiWire and WiFi411.
One calls also hotspot a given zone of a page Web, which makes it possible to activate a bond Hypertexte. This term is thus equivalent to “hot area” or “zone cliquable”.
