Limeray

Limeray is a common French of the department of Indre-et-Loire, in the area Center.

Its inhabitants is called the Limeriens, Limeriennes .

Geography

History

Origin of the name: of Latin Limeriacum, Files: limit, the edge or also the passage. Heiress of old Lithoriacum or Lithomarii villa. The village is thus to develop starting from the field of Lithomar, a rich person landowner of the Gallo-Roman time. This character with the Germanic name is undoubtedly one of these " barbares" that the Roman governors of province encouraged to emigrate towards their territories at the time of the Lower Empire (3/4ème century) there to clear and exploit new grounds.
