Limeil-Brévannes

Limeil-Brévannes is a common French, located in the department of the Valley-of-Marne and the area Île-de-France. Its inhabitants is the Brévannais .

History

The village of Limeil on the plate, with more than 80 m of altitude, is contiguous to that of Valenton and occupies the highest part of the slope.

Limeil seems to draw its name from the elms which covered its territory.

With the bottom of the slope in direction of Boissy-Saint-Leger, the locality of Brévannes in the plain, 45 m lower

The name of Brévannes can be attached to the Latin root " Biber " who means beaver.

A Roman presence on the common one was clearly attested, in particular a cemetery and a way, which was redécouverte about 1860.

At one moved back time, the Marne ran between Bonneuil, Sucy and Boissy bathing the foot of the slope where Limeil rises today to join the Seine, downstream from Villeneuve-Saint-Georges. In the wood of Brévannes, the site of the bed of the Marne is recognized by the presence of fluviatile sands mingled with remains with fresh water shells.

In 481, the inhabitants of the village of Limeil and its Brévannes hamlet devoted themselves exclusively to the small agriculture, and the orchards in the plain. At the XVIIIè Century, the vine will take a great importance for the village.

Until the revolution the parish was used as territorial limit, Brévannes not being whereas a " escart" depending directly on Limeil.

About 1235, under the reign of Louis IX (Saint-Louis) of the titles allowed to discover the name of the most former lord of Limeil: Hugues de Limoleo.

In 1642, Brévannes accommodated a host illustrates in the person of Louis Vau, architect of Louis XIV. Until 1659, Louis Vau will not cease increasing his property the Hermitage become a true small manor of 12 parts with dependences.

From 1687 to 1691, the Marchioness of Sévigné accomplished several stays in one of the very beautiful residences dispersed on the commune of Brévannes, property held with lease by her cousin Madam de Coulanges, marries of the chansonnier Philibert de Coulanges.

Under the empire, the Lefebvre marshal, Duke of Dantzig and his wife celebrate it Mrs Sans-Gêne, remained with the castle. It is at that time, towards 1810 which was built a cotton-spinning, on the ground of what today is the stage Paul Vaillant Dressmaker. The spinning mill and a tilery installed with the site of the plantation of orchises (street of Valenton) was only the " artisanal factories " established on the commune during this period.

It is into 1867 that the mayor of the time, Mr Rivière, made build the first school, (Pasteur) close to the town hall. In 1884, the establishment of a new school on the commune was decided. October 1st, 1892, for the re-entry, the school " Jules Ferry " (today Anatole France) was open.

The war of 1870 against the Prussians caused terrible damage. The inhabitants of Limeil and Brévannes knew a severe famine.

Between the 2 wars (1870 - 1914) Limeil-Brévannes was a very animated commune. In 1874 the train arrived at Boissy then Limeil.

Since May 2007, all the municipal councils are diffused on line on Internet site of the commune after one trial period since December 2006 when the councils were recorded before being diffused the shortly after the council.
