Lime-of-Crotenay the is a common French, located in the department of the the Jura and the area Franche-Comté.

Geography

History

André Berthier proposed into 1962 to locate the place of the battle of Alésia at Chaux. It led there excavations, surveys and prospections which did not make the object of scientific publications but one mentioned in works intended for the general public. This assumption met a notable support in the area and part of the public opinion. Historians and archeologists agree however, since the Franco-German excavations of the years 1990, to place the head office of Alésia at Sorb-apple-Holy-Queen. In 1996, 31 preventive surveys carried out by a.F.A.N. (become National research institute archaeological preventive) in the zone of the Bridge of Lime appeared negative. The site of Lime-of-Crotenay the east however always defended by private individuals and associations.

Cultural life and associative

For a few years (more than ten years) has been created in the village a religious organization, the VERCINGETORALES. This association organizes each summer at the beginning of July an eclectic festival: theater, Celtic music (Celtic Toothing-stone, Irish music, folk…), archaeological or literary conferences, literary exposures, diaporamas, tales and legends, meetings, excursions with topic, reconstitution of a Gallic village, Gallic Meal (fine mets been useful on trencher)… a multi-field approach of this Celtic civilization which questions us and makes us dream… Association created a magic place in the Park of the Castle: the Forest Theater, a very rustic structure wood and " authentique" under which all the spectacles are held.

  • research of the archeologist André Berthier from 1962 proposed to locate on this commune the site of the Oppidum of Alésia, theater of the decisive battle of the Guerre of Gaules which opposed Jules César to the coalition Gaulois E carried out by the Arverne Vercingétorix in 52 av. J. - C.. This assumption however did not know to carry the conviction of the part of the scientific community.
