Limay is a common Yvelines and area Île-de-France. It is an industrial medium-sized city, located in edge of the Seine, in the south of French Vexin, vis-a-vis Mantes-the-Pretty with 53 km in the west of Paris.
The commune, which has 300 hectares classified in significant natural spaces, became since July 1st, 2005 “city-carries” of the Regional natural park of French Vexin.
Geography
The commune of Limay is in the North-West of the department of the Yvelines on Right Bank of the the Seine, opposite Mantes-the-Pretty.The communal territory forms a vast amphitheater turned towards the Seine in the south, and leant with the plate of French Vexin. It is staged in three levels, of north in the south, a plate soft inclined between 130 and 115 meters of altitude, part of transition to more accentuated slope and the low alluvial plain between 20 and 30 meters from altitude.
It is bordering on Guitrancourt in the North-East, of Porcheville in the east, Guerville and Mantes-the-City in the south, of Mantes-the-Pretty in south-west (these three last communes being on left bank of the river), of Follainville-Dennemont in the west and Fontenay-Saint-Father in north.
The communal territory mainly includes a island of the Seine, the island of Limay, the part belonging to Mantes-the-Pretty being called island with the Ladies.
Occupation of the territory
The territory of the commune is strongly urbanized (33%), with more than one hundred hectares of zones of economic activities, however about half of the territory (more than 500 hectares) remains rural.
Inhabited space is composed of an old core between the church and the Seine and of the concentric extensions including/understanding of the allotments of houses but also much of apartment buildings. The recent urbanization reaches from now on the plate (plain of the Birches) along RD 983.
The rural areas occupy especially the part northern and north-western commune and is composed of cultivated grounds (cereal field crop) and strong proportions of wooded areas, in particular the forest of Saint-Saver. 300 hectares were classified by the commune like significant Natural space.
Communications
The road communications are ensured by several axes:- in the North-South directions, the secondary road D 983 crosses the downtown area to join Mantes-the-Pretty. this road which ensures an important through traffic in the west of Yvelines towards the south and Magny-in-Vexin more north was deviated in the years 1990 by a by-pass circumventing the city by the east.
- in the East-West direction, the main axis is consisted the secondary road D 190 which connects Limay to Poissy while following Right Bank of the Seine, is doubled more in the south and more close to the Seine by the secondary road D 146 which ensures in particular the service road of the industrial parks and the river port located in the east of the commune.
Two Pont S truck drivers cross the Seine, the bridge of Mantes, very old crossing point, rebuilt in 1951, and the more recent viaduct (1992) of the by-pass, to 2 x2 ways. this last allows rejoindrer the Autoroute of Normandy the exchanger of Mantes-the-City (Mantes-Is).
On the railway level, the commune is crossed by the line Paris-Saint-Lazare - Mantes-the-Pretty via Argenteuil and Conflans-Holy-Honorine which crosses the Seine by a viaduct with cement arches being pressed on the island of Limay. A particular Embranchement is detached some to ensure the service road of the river port of Limay. A station located in the south of the city is served by the suburban trains of the Transilien.
Limay also lays out of a river Port located in the southern point of the territory communal and made up of a wet dock of eight hectares dug perpendicular to the river. This port is managed by the public corporation of the Port authority of Paris.

History
Origins
The site of Limay was already inhabited at the time prehistoric. Many archaeological remainders such as polished and cut stones, arrowheads, axes, were found in the communal territory, in particular at the time of the exploitation of sand pits and ballast-pits in the quaternary alluvia.Before the Roman conquest, the territory was occupied by the Celtic tribe of the Véliocasses, attached to the Gaulle Belgium.

- river Port of Limay-Porcheville: depending on the Port authority of Paris, it is the first fluvio-maritime port of Ile-de-France, accessible to maritime Caboteur S from 5.000 tons.
- industrial Park, of which a treatment plant of dangerous waste.
Companies
- Sarp-Industries: this company, subsidiary of Onyx (group Veolia Environnement), exploits a processing center of all type of Déchet S of a capacity of 300.000 tons years created in 1975. An production unit of biocarburants is in the course of creation.
Culture
Inheritance
- Saint-Aubin Church: church of Romance style , built towards 1150 out of stone and grinding, it is increased at the 16th century of four spans. The bell-tower is provided with a stone arrow of 41 m in height, restored in 1906.

Old bridge: old bridge of the 11th century century, rebuilt by Sully in 1613, of which there remain only some arches Limay side following many vicissitudes, whose last were the destruction of two arches in 1940. This bridge appears in several tables of the painter Jean-Baptiste Camille Corot.
